  • 3 Cafe Rouge on the high street

When we went to cafe rouge in town as we had a bunch of tesco deals vouchers and we were very worried about giving them in and that did put us on edge some what. We felt that the staff would think we were rather cheap by using them, but we found that this was not the case. In fact loads of other people were at the pay point with vouchers in hand and quite proudly discussing with each other the free meal they had just had with the help of the deals vouchers. Thank goodness it was so easy to give them in. It gave us a chance to try some where we had not been before. You do have to pay for the drinks that you have on the offer, but it still makes a really good cheap night out.

  • 4 Suprisingly good!

I had never been to cafe rouge, in all the years it has been on colchester high street and I walked past it every day, until last week. And I am so glad that I finally made the visit! They accept Tesco club card deal vouchers in here, which my wife collects. This is what prompted us to visit, and it was so worthwhile. The food is very reasonable, and not at all as frightening as you might expect when you think of a french menu! My steak baguette was well cooked and a big portion, whilst my wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken and pasta dish. It did leave her temporarily immobile as it was such a large portion! We will definitely be visiting here again as the service was polite and fast, and the food was good and not too expensive.

  • 3 Pay with tesco deals vouchers

We recently visited cafe rouge, which is on the high street, in colchester town centre. We discovered that you could use deals vouchers so we decided to give it a go, as they were running out the next day. Well it was not bad, the half a chicken dish was tasty and huge, my pie thing was good too. The bread was a bit over priced, but the mix your own lemonade goes down well with the kids. I would go gain, but only to use the vouchers. I would not say it was anything special but it was ok. The decor is nice, attempting to be french and the waitresses were quite friendly too. It is a chain and the standard is the same as most.

  • 3 ok

Having spent many years walking straight past the cafe rouge I can finally say I have been inside and tried out what always looks so popular. At lunch times the cafe is always very busy, so you may have to wait a little longer. I would not say it was a bargain meal, not at all, but it did taste nice and the dessert was good too. The waitresses were efficient and nice. The french style of cafe rouge is cosy and nice and I would go back again at some point especially as having read the other reviews, it looks like you can use tesco vouchers which will make it a bargain meal for us.

  • 3 Good for lunches

Cafe Rouge is good for lunches and light meals. It is generally quite busy although not excessively so, although it does not feel crowded. The prices are reasonable and are much what you would expect from a cafe chain. They do a good range of nice sandwiches and when I last visited I had the houmous, which was good although not very big. The decor is quite nice and you can practice your french by reading the food words they have helpfully painted on the walls for you. It is also good if you like people watching as it is situated on a busy corner of the High Street.
