• Puts on a good show

  The mercury theatre is slightly hidden away at balkerne gate. It can be accessed from the top of head strreet on foot or by car. There is no parking at this venue though, so plan ahead and arrive in plenty of time to park your car at one of the near by car parks. The selection of shows is always very varied and those that we have seen have been entertaining. The theatre is not all that big but you do get a decent view of the stage because of this. Prices are fair and we hope to visit the mercury to see an up and coming production next month. It is a cosy little theatre and the kids performances are usually good fun.

  The Mercury theatre is quite a big theatre in colchester, where they have a vast range of performances with something to please everyone. as a kid i came here with family to watch their xmas pantos, which although formulaic - what pantos arent?- are actually quite good. they also do serious drama and usually show all the major plays on tour, as well as smaller and local productions. they often have music performances and comedy stand up, and they have had the shakespeare abridged people there quite a few times as well as other funny spoof plays. good prices for matinees and worth visiting if you want a classy night out in colchester.
