  Williams and griffin is colchesters only large independent retail store and is situated at the top of the high street. It has its own car parking area which is at the back of the store. If you park there you can walk up the hill and enter the store via the revolving door to the basement floor. Here you will find a wonderful childrens dept with a good selection of toys and gifts to suit all ages. The swinging monkey must be as old as me now. The next floor houses the fragrance and cosmetics area along with accessories etc. A mid floor has house hold goods and kitchen ware galore. The mens wear and ladies wear depts are extensive and on the top floor is the restaurant and further home furnishing items. It is a great store with good quality products that makes you feel welcome and pampered. The xmas window display is always a joy to see too.

• Expensive, but the best quality

  Williams and Griffin is a large department store on Colchester high street, it has a wide range of mens and womens wear and a home section as well so it a viable alternative to Debenhams (although with higher quality). Being an independent department store it stocks things that other stores just dont and you can often find a bargain in amongst the pricier things. The store has a great range of designer clothes and accessories so everyone should be able to find something that they want. Like most department stores it also has a homeware section where you can get an amazing range of equipment.

  williams and griffins - also known as willie gees - is a spectacular shopping centre, like having a harrods in colchester. in fact, there are only two in the country and the other one is in london. there are loads of storeys, some homewares, some selling designer clothes (diesel, miss sixty and other expensive brands), some selling underwear - £100 for a bra? well they are very pretty and the changing rooms DO have silk curtains... and a really fab toy display. There is a monkey swinging on the ceiling which has been its trademark for at least 15 years, and I guarantee that if you bring your kids here you will be leaving with a great big hole in your wallet! This place isn’t cheap but it’s very luxurious if you are looking for something bespoke or designer.
